ON Whey Gold Standard Protein Powder Review (Is It Legit?)

by Joe Costello, CNC | Protein Powders

Whey Gold Standard Product ReviewWhey Gold Standard by ON is one of the most widely liked products out there for a reason. This product has been popular for a very long time, and throughout this Whey Gold Standard protein powder review, you’re going to find out why…but you will also find out what caused it to drop in the ranks in our top 10 best Whey Protein supplements.

Optimum Nutrition Company Profile

Optimum Nutrition has been successful in the sports nutrition industry for quite some time now. Try this product, and you will understand why. ON has always been one of the top companies in this industry.

I would be shocked if you hadn’t heard of them prior to reading this review. Optimum Nutrition is huge, and they have a very wide range of products. Most of these products are very impressive, including this one. Read on to find out what makes this one of our favorite protein powders out there.

Whey Gold Standard Ingredients

Here are the primary Optimum Nutrition Whey Gold Standard ingredients:

  • Whey protein isolate
  • Whey protein concentrate
  • Whey peptides
  • Lecithin
  • Artificial flavor

Whey Gold Standard’s protein blend consists of whey protein isolate, whey protein concentrate, and whey peptides. Whey protein isolate is one of the purest forms of protein powder available, but the blend as a whole is not so good. Though isolate is a decent source of protein, the best type of protein available is hydrolysate. It is by far the most absorbable and effective whey protein out there.

It is very important when buying a protein powder to take a close look at the protein blend. You want to look for whey protein isolate or whey protein hydrolysate and avoid any other types of protein. This protein blend is simply average, and that is the primary reason for the product’s slide down our list.

It is just as important to make sure the protein powder you are buying contains BCAAs. BCAAs speed up recovery and therefore speed up muscle growth. This protein powder contains a ton of BCAAs, which are absolutely necessary to reach your maximum growth potential. More specifically, this protein powder contains 5.5 grams of BCAAs in every serving, which is one of the highest out there.

For such a great-tasting product, it has extremely low sodium! With 30 mg in every serving, cholesterol is also fairly low. More amazing is the fact that this protein powder contains less than 1 gram of fat, making it an awesome product for lean muscle gain. Most protein powders contain a lot more fat and sugar than this one does in order to make the product taste better.

This is something you want to keep an eye out for when buying a protein powder. Whey Gold Standard is in our opinion one of the most nutritious protein powders we have reviewed. The nutrition label can never lie, so take a look for yourself and see how healthy this protein powder really is!

Whey Gold Standard Ingredients

Effectiveness

This product is nearly ideal for muscle recovery and growth. Members of our staff have used this protein powder for quite some time, and we can tell you that the results are great most likely due to the protein blend and high BCAA count. We were happy with the results we saw when taking this product and would consider it one of the most effective protein powders we have tested.

Whey Gold Standard also contains about 4 grams of added glutamine, which is great for muscle growth and recovery. With 24 grams of protein, 5.5 grams of BCAAs, and 4 grams of added glutamine, it would be highly unlikely that you would not see results. Being an expert in the field of sports nutrition, I have to say that this isn’t the first product I would recommend. However, it is certainly one of the first, and I have recommended it plenty of times before in my experience.

Taste

ON did not get to the top of this industry by creating products that don’t taste good. Almost all of their products are excellent, and this protein powder is no exception. Like I previously mentioned, members of our staff used this product for quite some time, and always looked forward to the post workout protein shake because of how great it tastes.

If I were to personally recommend a specific flavor, I would say Chocolate Malt. There is a very wide variety of flavors for this product. You need to be careful when choosing a flavor and pick one that you love because it will help you use the product consistently. Generally, chocolate and vanilla are the most popular flavors when it comes to protein powders.

The texture is extremely smooth. The ideal texture and phenomenal taste make the product very easy to drink, and like I said before, I always looked forward to drinking my post workout shake when I was taking this product.

The Pros

  • 24 grams of protein in every serving
  • Loaded with BCAAs
  • Contains added glutamine
  • Less than one gram of fat
  • Low cholesterol and carbs
  • Low calories
  • Protein formula is pure
  • Ingredients can make for good muscle recovery and growth
  • Low sugar
  • Tastes fantastic

The Cons

  • Protein formula doesn’t consist of strictly whey protein isolate and whey protein hydrolysate
  • Added BCAA and Glutamine counts could be higher

Is Gold Standard Whey Protein Good or Bad? Our Conclusion

Whey Gold Standard is an extremely nutritious product, and one of the best protein powders you can buy. I personally used this product and highly recommend it to everyone who asks me about it. The ingredients are very nutritious, the BCAAs and added glutamine make it a great product for potential muscle growth, and you can always look forward to a great tasting shake after your workouts.
