What are the different types of CBD oil?
The primary types of CBD Oil are Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum, and CBD Isolate. It is extremely important to understand the difference between these types. Only Full Spectrum CBD contains the full spectrum of cannabinoids including CBD, CBC, CBG, CBN, and THC. For this reason, Full Spectrum CBD is far superior to Broad Spectrum and Isolate, which do not contain as many cannabinoids.
What are the best CBD oils? Here’s our top 10 list:
In order to discover the best CBD oil products on the market, we have thoroughly analyzed the most popular ones to determine which five of them should be considered the absolute best. Our conclusions are based on the CBD type, potency, third party lab analysis, value, and brand reputation. We took all of this into account when creating the following carefully ordered list.
1. Transcend Labs CBD Oil (Best rated CBD oil overall)
Transcend Labs undoubtedly has the highest quality and most potent CBD oil on the market. To be honest, it’s not even close. Their CBD oil is 32% more potent than the industry average. The standard dosage for CBD oil is 25 milligrams per serving, and that’s a solid serving size, but Transcend Labs’ 33 MG per serving dosage makes a HUGE difference.
Another important highlight is the fact that they sell strictly Full Spectrum CBD oil, which means it contains the “full spectrum” of cannabinoids. Most CBD oils are pure CBD, which is inferior to Full Spectrum CBD because you don’t get the benefits of the other cannabinoids.
As Transcend Labs says, only the full spectrum of cannabinoids can produce the full spectrum of benefits. In case you don’t already have enough reasons to see why they have the best CBD oil, it’s also 100% organic, non-GMO, vegan, and the potency levels are verified by a third party laboratory. Plus, if you’re a fan of CBD gummies, Transcend Labs actually has the only full spectrum CBD gummies on the market.
Transcend Labs CBD Oil is best for:
- Anxiety (specifically formulated for anxiety)
- Sleep
- Stress
- Chronic pain
- Inflammation

2. Diamond CBD Oil (Best for pain relief)

Diamond CBD makes one of the best CBD oil products on the market. We’re talking about 1,000 MG of CBD per tincture, 33 MG per serving. Plus, the CBD in use is full spectrum, which as we’ve talked about before, is ideal.
There’s one big problem that prevented Diamond CBD’s product from ranking in the top spot…it’s pretty absurdly overpriced.
Our top ranked best CBD oil, made by Transcend Labs, provides the exact same amount of full spectrum CBD, but for half the price. With Transcend Labs, you pay $64.99 for a tincture containing 1,000 MG of CBD Oil…on the other hand, Diamond CBD charges $110.49 for that exact same size tincture.
Diamond CBD Oil is best for:
- Chronic Pain
- Inflammation
- Anxiety
3. Joy Organics CBD Oil (Best for anxiety)
Joy Organics has created one of the most potent CBD oils on the market with over 30 milligrams of CBD in every serving. Their CBD oil is super high quality, potent, and the cannabinoid levels are verified by third party laboratories…so what’s the problem?
My only reservation about Joy Organics CBD oil is that it is broad spectrum, not full spectrum. As I said earlier, I believe full spectrum is far superior to any other form of CBD. It’s really as simple as the fact that the full spectrum of cannabinoids produces the most benefits.
This is an excellent CBD oil without a doubt…I just wish it were full spectrum. I tend to believe it’s still a solid product for anxiety if you are looking for a CBD oil that does not contain any THC. THC produces important benefits, but some people don’t want it in their CBD (mistake in my opinion).
Joy Organics CBD Oil is best for:
- Anxiety
- Stress
- Sleep
4. Avid Hemp CBD Oil (Best for sleep)
Avid Hemp makes an excellent CBD Oil that checks almost every box on our list. The CBD type in use is Full Spectrum, which is ideal, as we’ve already talked about. Just to reiterate, only the full spectrum of cannabinoids can product the full spectrum of benefits – remember that.
Additionally, they offer 1,000 MG and 1,500 MG size tinctures, which are high potency levels. The reason we say it’s best for sleep is because of the high potency options they have available. You’re going to get a very solid dosage of CBD per serving with either one of these sizes…plus, their CBD products are third party lab tested, so we can check that box too.
Lastly, let’s talk about value. There’s a bit of an issue here with value, which is major reason why it did not rank higher on this list. The 1,000 MG tincture is priced about $30 higher than it should be. There are options on this list that offer the same potency level for a much lower price.
Avid Hemp CBD Oil is best for:
- Sleep
- Restlessness
- Anxiety
5. NuLeaf Naturals CBD Oil (Best for value)
NuLeaf Naturals makes super high quality CBD oil dropper, there’s no question about that. They have earned their reputation in this space, and their CBD oil does not disappoint…it’s full spectrum and third party lab tested, but it doesn’t quite match the elite potency levels of the CBD oils above.
With their standard 30-serving CBD oil, you only get 24 MG per serving, which is about 10 MG less than you get with our #1 ranked best CBD oil. Additionally, the 30-serving bottle costs $99.99, which is $30 more than you would pay for our top ranked CBD oil.
These factors caused it to rank towards the bottom of this list, but one of my favorite things about NuLeaf Naturals is that you can buy CBD in bulk for pretty cheap from them. If you’re looking to buy a ton of CBD oil in bulk, it’s worth checking them out. We say it’s best for value because of how much CBD you can buy at one time…the sizes they offer are very large.
NuLeaf Naturals CBD Oil is best for:
- Value
- Buying in bulk
- Anxiety relief
6. Nanocraft CBD Oil (Best for pain)
Nanocraft CBD is a brand that makes great broad spectrum products. Their products are very high quality, properly dosed, and potent. It’s our opinion that their best product is their CBD oil. However, it’s also our opinion that none of their products are top shelf to begin with since they do not use full spectrum CBD.
If you’re looking for broad spectrum products, Nanocraft CBD is a great brand. However, if you’re interested in experiencing the full spectrum of benefits that cannabidiol has to offer, you need to be consuming the full spectrum of cannabinoids. We tend to strictly recommend full spectrum brands, and we also like to see above average potency. Nanocraft CBD simply meets the industry standard potency-wise. They do not go above and beyond.
Nanocraft CBD Oil is best for:
- Pain
- Inflammation
- THC-free options
7. Receptra Naturals CBD Oil (Best for sleep)
Receptra Naturals is a full spectrum CBD brand with a few pretty solid products. We like the fact that they offer multiple strength options with regard to their CBD oil specifically. Also, some of their CBD tinctures contain added elements such as Turmeric or Ginger. Some people may see these additions as a plus, but we believe these ingredients taint the purity of the CBD oil and ultimately don’t serve much of a purpose.
Additionally, the main issue we have with Receptra Naturals is the fact that if you want to pay for extra strength CBD oil, it’s ridiculously expensive. Their strongest option provides 33 milligrams of CBD per serving, which is the exact amount our #1 ranked CBD oil provides…however, Receptra Naturals charges twice the amount as our top ranked brand. We just don’t see any real reason to choose this brand.
Receptra Naturals CBD oil is best for:
- Sleep
- Stress
- Variety
8. CBDfx CBD Oil (Best for anxiety)
CBDfx makes a solid full spectrum CBD oil product that we have recommended in the past, although newer brands that have recently entered the space created better products, so this one ultimately fell down our rankings pretty far. CBDfx has a wide selection of products, and they used to be one of the major players in this space.
However, with a CBD oil that provides just barely above the industry standard in terms of potency and has high pricing, CBDfx just can’t really compete in this market anymore. Their CBD oil is good, but it’s been beaten out by some of the newer, more potent, and yet less expensive CBD oils listed above.
CBDfx CBD oil is best for:
- Anxiety
- Stress
- Calm and relaxation
9. Mana Artisan Botanics Hemp Oil (Best for stress relief)
Mana Artisan Botanics Hemp Oil is a Hawaiian CBD oil product that is infused with flashy ingredients such as Turmeric, Coconut, and Macadamia Nut oil. It is certainly a very unique product. Many people are attracted to the idea that it comes from Hawaii and is infused with other beneficial nutrients, but the reality is that with regard to CBD specifically, it’s actually pretty severely under dosed.
They only make 300 MG and 600 MG options, which breaks down to only 10 MG and 20 MG per serving, respectively. Both of these dosage sizes are less than the industry standard, which is 25 MG. Mana Artisan Botanics Hemp Oil is also pretty absurdly overpriced, and there’s really no justification for it on our view.
The whole “Hawaiian CBD oil with added ingredients” approach is cool and sexy, but at the end of the day, it simply can not compete with the ultra-potent best cbd oil products on this list. Most CBD oils just use a simple carrier oil such as MCT oil, and we feel that is more ideal than trying to overdo it with all of these added ingredients such as coconut oil etc.
Mana Artisan Botanics Hemp Oil is best for:
- Anxiety
- Stress relief
- Sleep
10. 4 Corners Cannabis Oral Tincture
4 Corners Cannabis makes a pretty solid CBD oil tincture that contains a total of 1,000 MG of CBD in it. 1,000 MG is the ideal size for a tincture in our opinion since that breaks down to about 33 MG per serving. That’s a pretty strong dosage, plus the product is full spectrum.
However, where 4 Corners Cannabis really lost us with this product is the price. It is absurdly overpriced. They charge twice what our top ranked brand charges for almost the exact same product. Our top rated CBD oil provides more CBD per serving and is almost exactly half the price of this one, so it’s really hard to justify recommending this overpriced product. It’s a good CBD oil tincture, but the value just isn’t there.
4 Corners Cannabis Oral Tincture is best for:
- Anxiety
- Stress relief
- Relaxation
How to choose CBD oil: key takeaways
Unlike most other review sites, we don’t just expect you to take our word for it on which CBD oil is best. As I touched on before, there are a LOT of things to take into consideration before deciding which CBD oil is right for you, and this section is designed to teach you what our analysis is based on and help you decide for yourself which is the best CBD oil for you.
Here are some of the most important features to consider when evaluating CBD oil:
Third Party Lab Tests
This is an absolute requirement. CBD companies, and supplement companies in general, have proven over the years that many of them can’t be trusted. For this reason, don’t take their word for it on potency levels. Only buy from CBD companies that have third party lab verified potency levels.
When you’re on a CBD company’s website, look for a tab that says something like “Third Party Lab Tests,” or “Third Party Lab Results.” These tests are also known as Certificates of Analysis, or COAs. You do not want to buy from a company that does not have their COAs made public. You should be able to see the third party lab results.
CBD products are legally required by the FDA to contain less than .3% THC, which renders them completely non-psychoactive. Trace amounts of THC will not get you high. The Certificates of Analysis should show that the products contain <.3% THC. As long as the COAs show this, you can be confident the product will not be psychoactive or get you high. The COAs will also show exactly how much CBD the products contain, which is the main reason why third party testing is imperative.
CBD Type
What type of CBD is being used? Is it CBD isolate (pure CBD), broad spectrum, or full spectrum? Full spectrum is best because the combination of all the active cannabinoids produces what’s known as the “entourage effect.”
The entourage effect refers to the idea that cannabinoids are much more effective when used all together. Each cannabinoid complements the next one, and they all work synergistically to enhance each others benefits.
So, CBD (cannabidiol) on its own (CBD isolate) will produce benefits, but the benefits will be much more significant if CBD is used in conjunction with other cannabinoids…this is what’s called Full Spectrum CBD. It’s called “full spectrum” because it contains the full spectrum of cannabinoids the hemp plant has to offer.
We recommend always choosing full spectrum over broad spectrum CBD or isolate in order to maximize the benefits of CBD. Your body’s Endocannabinoid System (ECS) simply responds best to the full spectrum of cannabinoids.
Value
It’s extremely important to break down the value and determine exactly how much CBD you’re getting per serving and how much money you’re paying for it. For example, with Transcend Labs, you get: 30 servings, 1,000 MG for $64.99. That breaks down to 33 MG for only $2.16 per serving…excellent value.
Company Reputation
Who makes the oil? Where does it come from? Does the company have a social media presence? For example, Transcend Labs is based in the United States, their CBD products are made in the USA, they have a major presence on social media, and their “about us” page tells you everything you need to know about the company’s background.
Hemp Source
CBD is derived from hemp, and it’s important that the hemp it comes from is high quality. In other words, since CBD is a hemp extract, consumers need to consider the quality of the hemp from which it’s being extracted.
We generally prefer companies whose hemp extract products come from either California, Oregon, or Colorado, as those states are typically where the highest quality hemp plants are organically grown. In order to produce high quality hemp products, you need to first properly grow a high quality organic hemp plant.
Transcend Labs manufactures their products in California, which is good news. Their CBD is derived from organically grown Californian hemp, which makes for super high quality products.
Hemp Extraction Process
Another thing to consider is the method by which the phytocannabinoids are extracted from the hemp plant. The most common hemp extraction process is CO2 Extraction, which is good, but the latest and greatest method is actually Ethanol Extraction. Ethanol Extraction is very similar, but it’s a little bit more efficient and effective. Our top ranked brands all use CO2 Extraction, but Transcend Labs actually uses Ethanol Extraction.
